I received word from my friend in Canada who is in contact with Motul and it appears their 0w-40 E-tech which they consider their premier street oil (better base stocks than their 5w-40) is to be replaced by a new product, the 0w-30 X-Lite which is claimed to be ester based and derrived more closely from their double ester race oils. I am likely going to be trying this.

In addition there will be a new 5w-30 X-max and a new gear lube that will rival the gear 300. And on a final note there will be a new brake fluid that will trump the already well respected RBF 600.

The motor oils will meet VW 502, 505 and 503.01 and was certified to meet those standards at a cost of 250,000 euros (I was provided all documentation on testing and certification).

cheers! Mike

Here's the old Motul 0w40 had a Porsche certification, i'm kind of disappointed since i just started using it last year and i love this stuff. Dunno how a thinner oil will affect my engine... should i stock up now or is the 0w30 similar enough to use?

According to Motul the new 0w-30 will be their new premier street oil. It will use even more robust base stocks similar to their double ester race technology that is second to none. Zero shear seen in their tests. This should be similar and I wouldnt doubt it will eventually meet all specs we are used to seeing. It is still a young oil. It meets vw503.01 which is a historically more difficult spec to meet as far as I have been told. There will also be a 5w-30 x-max that should have a higher HT/HS but with less robust base stocks making it perhaps a better high performance mid-term oil like the old 5w-40 was. The old 0w-40 used their best street oil technology according to them and the 0w-30 will follow that suit.

cheers! Mike

Thanks for the info. This oil intrigues me. The HTHS viscosity is not listed but it must be at least 3.5 cp. Overall, it appears to have similar viscometrics as GC, which is only possible with really good basestocks.

Please let us know if you find it for a good price. Online prices of Motul can vary from affordable to ridiculously high.

Has anyone found the X-Lite here here in the US? It's been a few months since this thread but I still don't see it on any online source.

we are still using the 0W-40 in canada, not sure about the new X-lite

0W-40 is already ester based, but just not as much as 300V

0W-40 is the number one oil i like but they are at 14 dollars per quart here in canada even at the cost price from distributor, and they keep raising the price since Euros going up crazy

sometimes they have discounts but not much, but only a dollar cheaper

Teaelle - where do you get this oil in Canada? The new 'Eco 5W-30 looks like a great product for any car needing 5W-30 - thin 9.9 viscosity, ester-based tech.......I'm in Ottawa...

I also live in ottawa, and wouldnt mind giving Motul a go. Any Canadian online retailers ? or shops that anyone knows of.

there are only one distributor in eastern canada and that's in toronto

if u r in ottawa u have to order them thru online and that would be expensive, or u can try the performance shop in ur local area (i dunno any in ottawa, try a european specialist for VW cars might get u some but expensive)

since it's pretty hard to get, Amsoil is a much better choice in terms of price and availability and pretty much same protection, but motul gives a better feel with the engine...at least in my case

the Eco 5W-30 has been out for some time, only the X-lite which is a new product and few other specific oils. i would only recommend the X-lite among the lineup coz the Eco 5W-30 and Amsoil 5W-30 would be pretty much the same thing, but X-lite has ester

my garage get it straight from the distributor, it's only a few blocks away here...but it's pretty hard to get sometimes coz they are always out of stock, esp during the racing seasons

Amsoil 5W-30 will match the Eco 5W-30 in every single category, and costs less than those French ----
