Well all generators need VR. That's a given - but how the generator does it varies. Some of the marketing bragging points involve how fast this VR happens.

Some state that they “react” within one cycle – IOW in simple terms, the voltage doesn’t go through more than one full 60 Hz wave form below some specified limit before reacting to the low line condition.

Here's some methods designers might use:

My new little generator came. Sweet little fellow fired right up on battery power. Only problem was the wheel kit didn't match the frame holes - I needed to drill two holes. Worked great and I called them on it (after I fixed it), very friendly. Neato.

Ran it for 3 10-15 minute cycles on Havoline 5W-30.

Loaded it down with a few large halogen lights, battery charger, power tools, etc. Seems to be A-OK. Good bargain under $400, that's for sure.

I think the Chinese copied the Honda OHV engine. The oil chart sez below freezing 5W-30, mid section 10W-30, above 60°F, SAE 30. ACD will go in soon. Holds 0.7 qts.
