I believe everything looks okay, any opinions?

Lead at over 50% of iron may be a concern (it would be in most any other engine).

Having just started life with my first OM617, I need more data on how these engines throw their metal. But 18ppm lead is a lot in 2700 miles no matter how you slice it.

Were you dosing with fuel additives by chance?

Good to see you here from Mercedesshop!

I haven't been able to find any Mercedes analyses with anywhere near the lead you are showing. I am surprised the lab did not flag the lead.

Just found an analysis in my files from a friends '84 300D, from 2004. 150,000 on the car, 2350 on the sample. Penzoil Long Life 15W40, mostly short trips around town.

Iron was 10ppm and lead was 1ppm. Chromium was 0, copper was 2. Si was 7ppm.

FWIW...just another data point.

Thanks Ler.

Both those samples had 1ppm Pb in >4000 mile intervals.
