Hello~

This is my first thread in 'Light Duty Diesel Engine Oils/Automobiles'

I have one question about ACEA spec.

Can I know the minimum value of TBN that meets the specification of ACEA B3/B4 ??

It's so hard to get some info about this.

Please, help me~~~

Thanks~

It just has to have enough to pass all the tests.

Thx for your reply~
Then, at least, what number of TBN is appropriate to meet the ACEA B3/B4 ?

I've heard that the TBN of diesel engine oil is more than 10, but that of some products which meets the ACEA B3/B4 is just 7.5 around. Is there any problem in using that low TBN oil in light duty diesel engine?

I guess it would mostly depend on how much sulfur is in your diesel fuel and how many miles you go between oil changes. Unfortunately with you living in S. Korea, I have no clue what oils are available to you, what diesel fuel you have, or anything about your diesel Hyundai. If nobody else can help you here either, play it safe and go for an oil with TBN of 10 or more.

Mobil 1 0w40 is also available and so famous in Korea. I think many Koreans love it and trust Mobil 1.

Maybe, TBN value of Mobil1 0w40 is over 10.

Recently, I have interest in Torco SR-1 5w40, but TBN of SR-1 is just 7.5, so I am worried about long term use of this oil in my diesel.

I think the latest M1 0W-40 TBN was tested at 11.5 in the VOA forum.
Yeah don't use Torco.
You didn't even need anyone's help...you know your stuff already!
