I have a Corvette with a Supercharged and Nitrous Injected 406 it cranks out a little over 1000hp. I drive it on the street so most of the miles are not that hard but i like to feel it go sometimes I drive it hard so at times it will see oil temps in excess of 300 degrees. I have been using 15W50 M1 but since it seems that they now use GRP3 base stock I'm looking to go with something else. I want to use a multi-grade oil so single weight racing oil is not what I want to use. What oil will give me the best protection and yet work well for cold starts and general street driving yet hold up to some extreme abuse. I change the oil every year car is only driven in the summer so it gets about 1500 miles between oil changes. Price is no consideration just the best oil for this application. What would you suggest.

If you like something a little heavier maybe amsoil tro 20w-50 would be worth looking at? I ran it in a 4cyl passenger car last winter and no cold start issues.

This engine is subjected to extreme bearing loading would the redline be any better than the Amsoil for this application. I hope this don't start a oil war but I would like to hear from some opinions of what would be best for me. I think I read that redline was thicker than some oils. In the past I ran 15W50 M1 I think it is kinda thin for the weight would the 10W40 RL be about the same hot as the 15-50 M1 was.

The thing with Redline is that it's HTHS numbers are usually one step better than most oils. In other words, their 10w40 has a comparable HTHS value of a 15w50 oil. So you get the similar bearing protection of a thicker oil, but will get more horsepower from having the thinner oil.

Thanks for that info Patman that sounds like what i need.
I see Jeg's sells RL anyone on this forum sell it.

I see that JEG'S has it in a blue bottle 10w40 and a 10w40 in a red gallon jug are both of these the same spec oil I would assume they are but since the container is a different color I'm just wanting to make sure. I know nothing about red line oil

I believe Redline offers a street version and a race version of it's 10w40 oil so just be sure to get the street version, since Redline's racing line of oil supposedly contains no detergents in it at all.

Thanks. I checked out your home page that is a cool ride you have their. I think I will call JEG'S and if they have the street 10w40 in gallons I will order them. The jugs are better for changing less caps to remove. My car holds 10 quarts. I had a kid in a GT Mustang rev at me while at a light and it made me feel like Clint Eastwood I'm thinking come on kid Make my day!!!

You might want to check out HRP World. There located in Illinois and they have a good supply of Red Line and I think they are less expensive that JEGS. They also give great service.

Hm, I never took notice but you're right about the redline HTHS scores being pretty high. If you look on redline's web site they'll show you dealers near you. A race shop near where I work is a dealer so sometimes I up redline ATF there.

That would be a good idea except the only speed shop within 50 miles of me is LOWES SPEED SHOP in Kokomo,Indiana and I would not buy from that crook if he was selling it for a dime a gallon.
The web site shows autozone as a dealer I just now called them and the guy had never heard of it he said you mean the name of the oil is red line and I said yes and he said he never heard of it. Several places that I have checked out only have it in quarts. I prefer to buy it in gallon jugs.
JEG's has the gallon jug's and it is 50 cents a quart less than the best price by the quart.

Thanks, it's a lot of fun, but I'm sure it's not as much fun as your 1000hp Corvette!

Bart... FYI. I have seen some people have issues with roller lifters while using M1 in a solid roller application.
Those issues were seen in 80/20 strip/street cars with rpms in excess of 7k.

I have had great luck using redline 10/40 and or Brad Penn 20/50 oil in my solid roller(spring pressures over 600 lbs when open).

Good Luck.

I called red line tech today and got the number of 10w40 in the gallon jug. The one that I saw on JEG'S site was the right one. I ordered 3 gallons from JEG'S
I'm thinking this will be much better than the M1 that I was using.
