Has anyone used any aftermarket "specialty" cable systems for their road bikes? I have often seen the teflon coated and the ones with the "inner" linings or casings. Do they really make that much of a difference for the cost?

Cables are mostly the same for both road and off road applications.

I like the die extruded and teflon coated cables, but they arent necisarry if you use a light oil on the cable(especially the part thats inside the housing).

I loath GoreTex Ride On cables(if they even make them anymore)...totally not worth it, humidity gets inside and the cable corrodes at a higher rate.

You should use the teflon coated cables, they last longer and will shift better, especially with STI or Ergo indexing systems.
