My current bike fleet pictures below.

This is my primary bike, replaced my previous bike. There are no shocks on this bike, very rough on trails even on streets too. Also it is fairly heavy. This bike replaces my old bike which was the Huffy Backwater 18 speed. The only thing left from that bike is the seat which I put on this bike. Selle Royal seat very comfortable.

This bike is my first bike which I learned to ride on. It took a lot of abuse with lots of wear and tear. This is one tough bike been on light trails too and still rides. It originally had handle brakes for the rear which later removed so now its only back pedal brakes. The seat is replaced by the one that came with my Diamondback bike. This bike is stored as part of my historic fleet.

Do you keep the seat that low on the mountain bike all the time?
If so, you must either be a bit small, have short legs, or you really need to raise it.

I never got what the correct or best seating position was. Right now at that seat height, I could touch the ground. I'm about 5'7".

Your leg should be almost extended when the pedal is at it's lowest point, just a slight bend.
