505.01 Oil

Use Amsoil European Car Formula 5W-40. It meets VW 505.01 and they guarantee it if VW gives you any grief.

Hey I say dump in valvoline max life full synthetic, it states right on the bottle 505.01. No not 505.00 but 505.01. Look for yourself. At 5.50 'ish a quart and 505.01 it sounds like a win-win to me. Please enlighten me.

L-M Diesel High Tech 5W40 (I'm not sure if Inter Part sells it). But Synthoil Longtime Plus 0w30 should work and Ithnk they had that.
Top Tec 4100 5W40 will work and I think they had that. Same with Longtime High Tech 5W30. Both of these are HC-syns, GrpIII.
