So im considering switching my 98 I30 off of M1 once i run out, I cant seem to find GC in my area but will continue to look, One thing i was thinking is about the possibility of going with BC, I really like M1 but wish it was a little thicker is BC on the thinner end of the 40wt scale? how does it compare to GC? just curious thanks

Kcryan. The viscosity of BC 5w40 is
14.0 cst @ 100 deg C. GC 0w30 has a
viscosity of 12.1 cst @ 100 deg C.
GC meets the newer BMW LL-01 which is
for lower viscosity in their newer
engines and other engine makes which
require a lower viscosity A3 rated oil.
The Belgium 5w40 Syntec meets the older
1998 BMW LL-98 spec of a thicker weight
long drain oil.

Sorry i know im dumb but i have little clue what these #'s mean, im guessing that means its thicker right?

thanks

But the key question is, what color is this oil?

I recently read something on a forum that said Hyundai was recomendng a thicker oil for my car in hot climates and this sounds like a good replacement for GC. I just want to know if it is a full PAO or a blend, although the other thread about this sounds like it is PAO.

I believe (after waffling [no pun intended]) that Belgian Castrol definitely is built on a PAO foundation.

Yes, kcryan, BC is DEFINITELY thicker.

Alright so its no good for this engine...for now anyway in about 250k more miles i think i may need some thicker oil. But when that time comes i will defiently make my decision based on color. sadly im not joking

Alas, difficulty in finding The Green is making so many people blue...
