Advice: Fumoto valve or Fram Sure Drain

Lt4Vette, I 've only heard praise for the Fram air filters. I'll add your endorsement to the list.

Other options to meet(?) your objective would be a through-the-dipstick pump or bringing oil and filter to the mechanic (and watching him actually pour it in).

an idea that works well, as long as your drain total is smaller in size than your drain jug. Take a 5qt oil jug (this size works for me being the car hold 3.75qts) drill a 1/2inch hole in it's cap which will allow the Fram SureDrain tube to slide into(the orange plastic tube). When it's time to drain the oil, you just slide the jug under the car, remove the SureDrain cap and pull the drain tube out just enough to thead it on for draining. When done, just untread and slid the tube back into the jug and then take the jug to the oil dump site-wherever you get rid of your oil. It works great along with it also working well for a oil sample valve by removing the orange tube from the oil valve nipple and than just screwing it on enough so as to control the amount of oil being let out into your sample bottle, when you have enough you just unscrew it to stop the flow.

You can purchase a part (similar to a hose clamp) at Home Depot which will ensure the lever will never open. Apparently, some off-roaders have used it with great success. I just looked and the Lubrication Specialists now sell an "optional stainless steel safety clip" for $1.00!

I have used both SureDrain and Fumoto and my vote is for the Fumoto!

well,

I've never had a Suredrain leak on the dozens and dozens of Oil changes I've done on many outfits I've used them on and even if it decided to, the cap would prevent loss of oil.

To me that means that if you keep the tube clean (I just place mine in a old sock) then when you want to take samples or lower the level your clean as can be.

Don't have to deal with clips, hose clamps or anything but a low profile device that works.

Simple for me!

And I can go get one at Checkers or Autozone.

I have the suredrain, I've clamped the hose onto the brass fitting which drains the oil.

I've also cut the plastic tube to make it just long enough to get into a 5 qt jug. I have other plastic tubes from other suredrains I've outfitted and one size fits all on the tubing.

I'm sure Fumoto is a fine product, I have no experience with both so I can't say which is preferable.

Regarding the Fumoto "needing the clip", that is only for extreme use--for normal use, it is not needed.

I use a 1/2" diameter hose on both vehicles and drain it right into a 5 gallon container for recycling.

When I used the Fram SureDrain, my only issue was it drained very slowly. The Fumoto drains much quicker.

Both are great for taking oil samples or for simply making an oil change less messy.

I've used both and the Fumoto appears to be better constructed and of higher quality.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I ordered a Fumoto valve (without nipple style) and will be installing it when i drain the AutoRX clean cycle oil (likely at the end of august, given driving trend)

Any tips on install?

I couldn't wait to install my Sure Drain so I did it with a full crankcase of oil. Just thumbed the hole while I switched em off. Only lost a few ounces.

Now that's what I'm talking about!

This man is serious BITOG member.

He can change the plug with little oil lost..

Even before he needed too.
