Hi all,

Being over here in Australia, we have been lead to believe that Pennzoil, more so in the past 15 years then right now, was a major name and player in the racing scene.

Many engine builders in recent years have left behind racing oils like Valvoline and so on, because when Pennzoil hit big about 8 years ago, it had this almighty USA specialised performance oil image.

One person I know, said that "the reason I chose to start using Pennzoil stuff, was because, it seemed big in racing and performance, and has been around a very long time".

So I am just wondering how do you guy's rate products like the Pennzoil GT Racing 25w50? Is or was this a popular oil among the racers and engine builders? more so V8 style racing I'm guessing V8 style racing is where it would of been suited.

Thanks.

All the Drag Racers around here used Kendall 20W-50 GT-1 for ages until they sold the Co (a few times) and changed the oil. The word got out very fast that it was different and not as good for this application. Just another bottle of brown goop now. When I exhausted my stash, I had to do something and ending my race fun at the track was not an option. On this BB as well as a few others, it became clear that the Vavoline VR-1 20W-50 as well as the Pennzoil worked well. Well in my area of FL they do not sell Pennzoil race oil in a 20W-50 so I started to use the VR-1. At the same time I did many VOA and UOA and consulted with Terry Dyson. Just now I'm using a 40W called Schaffer's micron moly, but have not sent in the sample for the UOA yet, so do not know how much it helped or hurt. I can tell you one thing, I don't like looking at the LOW oil pressure light when it's hot and at idle. Kind of gets me jumpy!

It a 555cid 14+:1 BBC on methanol If you truly want to get serious about lubrication for your race engine, get hooked up with Terry.
