I'm going to attempt to clean the exterior of my engine for the first time and need advice on how to do this. Are there any parts of the engine and its components I should not get water on? Do I spray the engine cleaner liberally? While engine is hot or cold? Do I drive the car right away or let it idle?

Just read the can, it tells you everything you need to know about the specific product.

I guess just don't spray water on your air filter if it is an exposed element.

cold engine, double plastic grocery bag the distributor and spray the engine....try not to get near the distributor, let it sit (according to can) then spray off...again avoiding distributor....thats how i did mine, still never looked as shiny as a new one though lol
