i don't know. i've asked them and i'm awaiting a reply. my guess is that maybe when they enter 5w-40, if the sample comes up out of grade it tries to determine a cause. fuel dilution does decrease viscosity and could put an oil out of grade, but 10.28 is perfect for an 0w-30 oil. in fact, the viscosity increased slightly from the VOA (9.36) to the UOA (10.28), which contradicts the fuel dilution flag.
the first image below is of two UOAs, a 5k OCI using Castrol 505.01, then a UOA from sample of the Motul 506.01 after 5k of use. i decided to pull the 506.01 and now have ELF 505.01 in the car. they thought the oil was fuel diluted 5w-40 instead of 0w-30. i wrote 0w-30 on the form but i guess they missed it.
