Hi Jack,

you may need to modify the name/viscosity of the oil used

Thanks

Hi Jack,
I thought that you meant Delvac 1 5w-40

Going by the UOA results I presume the oil is the older CH-4/SJ version - correct? - please confirm
How long had the oil been in the engine prior to the UOA??

Soot is not indicated and about 3.5% is the condemnation limit - it must be OK however see "viscosity"** below
Anyway as others have indicated and IMHO you have a good report and a quick summary of my UOAs covering this oil show that your Iron reading (33ppm) is excellent
Along with this the excellent TBN, low fuel dilution and the viscosity** still being above the 72 minimum (maximum 119) the oil has lots of life left yet

The condemnation TBN with this lubricant is 1 (D4739) or 2 (D2896)

Regards
Doug

The oil was in the engine for 7 months.

The iron looks high relative to the other VW post using 15w-40 if you extrapolate the miles driven. ??

Agreed. 2 to 2.5ppm per thousand is probably average. There is quite a range for "normal" though. I had 8ppm FE at 6,300 miles in my TDI with Amsoil 15W-40...but that was on the low side of normal.

Depends on a lot of other factors...location, additives, how many miles on the unit, driving conditions. I didn't see where that info was posted. Silicon was nice and low so it isn't from dirt - and chromium and lead were low.

Good report all in all...Delvac 1 is great oil.
