Here is an oil sample I took last January. I took this sample to check out the condition of the engine, and to see how a 15W40 oil performs in –40 weather.

6.2L Chev Diesel 2500
377500km, 4500km on oil, 1L oil added.
PetroCanada Duron 15W40
Sample Date Jan 28 2004
Factory Recommended OCI 4000/8000km
Staveley Services oil sample kit

New oil viscosity 100oC 15.6
New oil viscosity 40oC 117

I am happy with the results, the engine appears to be in good shape and the 15W40 worked fine, even if it was a little slow to build oil pressure at –40oC.

Here is my analysis on 15/40 Duron Petro Can oil in a 92 dodge diesel, 160,000 kms on truck, summer time driving, 5500kms, 1/2 litre added.

My last oil analysis showed 74 ppm on soot on Walmart tech2000 semi syn oil, this duron shows 0, I read about Duron and its effort on soot control, seems to be backed up in this analysis on my truck anyway.

Thought you might want a comparison on Duron, seems like good oil to me too.

Sorry, forgot to mention the oil base, mine is Conventional Duron 15/40. This Duron oil did good in summer for me, we get pretty good summer time heat here, about 80F to 100F. I am using Esso XD-3 100% syn oil this winter, Esso is Exxon I think. I hear the Duron makes a good syn oil for winter too.

cak446's diesel up north in Saskatoon gets some serious cold winter weather starts, Saskatoon winter climate is an extreme test for any oil.
