comments were to run a shorter OCI this time, to speed the break in and get abrasive wear materials out of the engine.

Doug,

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't insolubles and soot synonymous?

BTW - thanks for all of you insight and candor on this forum!

Hi,
wwillson - firstly thanks for your comments

"Insolubles" can mean different things to Labs and others and can be confusing. Some Labs embrace soot in the insolubles description

With a diesel UOA, soot should always be shown seperately - it is one of the defined "Action" factors with diesel engines

Insolubles can be described as pentane, toluene or benzine insolubles - and mean various things to all and sundry

Any Lab doing a UOA on a diesel lubricant for me would be instructed to treat soot independently

Kind Regards
Doug
