I'm just curious what toyota engines are non-interference.

Mostly I am concerned about my wife's 4.7L Tundra and my sister's 97 1.6L prizm/corolla.

I have heard that the 1.6l is a non-interference mtor, but I want to know for sure that it is. My sister has 93k on her corolla (she didn't realize that it had a belt)and I would like to put it off for a couple of weeks until I move into my new house, which has a garage.

The 4.7L 2UZ-FE Tundra up thru 2004 uses a timing belt and is an interference engine. The 05 on up 4.7L 3UZ-FE VVT-I Tundra uses a chain so it depends on what year.

FYI

Just don't think that if you have a chain...you are safe either. I had a 1994 Toyota 22re (chain). The chain broke at 66,621 miles while going 75mph. And yes, the CHAIN broke at the link, not the guides!!
