I've been reading the forums for a while and never came across a definition and couldn't find one when I searched for it.

My guess is "high detergent engine oil" or "something diesel engine oil", but those are only guesses.

Also, what defines an oil as being a HDEO.

John

PCEO - Passenger Car Engine Oil.
HDEO - Heavy Duty Engine Oil.

Chevron Delo - Diesel Engine Lube Oil.

There are real no "standards" as far as I know as the "HDEO" title is pretty much just a nickname...just basically means an oil has been designed for use in diesel engines.

Never heard of PCEO. The common nomenclature in the retail oil business would be PCMO for 'passenger car motor oil' and you are correct on the HDEO as being' heavy duty engine oil' typically implying trucks.

HD normally is used for something better than CC. It was introduced to diferentiate the CD and indicate that it was suitable for Turbos.
