Probably what I wind up doing, Steve. I can't believe there would be much difference if it's spec'd out the same.

All the major farm tractors use a 30 weight hydraulic oil for their transmissions and hydraulics combined.
If it is just a hydraulic resiviour then it would be a straight 10w.
You can mix and match JD/CaseIH/Massey etc. They all use a 30w....nothing magical about it.
One other thing...when reading the operators manual they ask that you use their brand of oil...but if it is not available to use an oil that meets their specs.

I need to change the hydraulic fluid in my Tractor and Massey says "only use Massey PermaTran III" . Supposed to be superior to others. Problem is I live 80 miles from the nearest dealer(Massey) that handles PermaTran. My local dealer(Massey) uses hyraulic fluid from SunNoCo(sp). My question is: do I use generic or travel 160+miles for PermaTran?
