You could probably get really good results with either a Syncromesh or MTL.

Alan,
The transmission in the Audi TT uses "G50" manual transmission lubricant, which is a 75W90 transmission lube. The VW Golf discussed in your link uses the "G52" fluid, which is of an ATF-like viscosity.

Redline MT-90 or Amsoil MTG would be the correct lube to use in this transmission. Amsoil recommends their MTG product for this transmission , as shown in their Product Application Guide when you look up the 2001 Audi TT:

Sorry stupid comment on my part - of course Mobil 1 ATF will not meet spec since its not an auto tranny! I meant Mobil 1 75-90!

DO NOT USE M1 75w-90 oil in your Audi's manual tranny. Your tranny needs GL-4 oil, and the M1 is GL-5. GL-5 contains EP additives which are harmful to the brass synchros in Audi/VW manual transmissions.

Get yourself a proper 75w-90 GL-4 oil. Personally, I'd stick with OEM. You could use Redline MT-90 or the appropriate Royal Purple oil as well, but from all the reviews of different oils I've seen on AudiWorld forums, it still looks like the OEM fluid is the best way to go.
