Lube for manual recirculating ball saginaw steering gear

Not sure if this is the best place for this question... maybe it should be under "grease"?

What should I use in a '60s GM manual steering box? I have seen everything from 80W-90 to Chassis EP grease posted on various internet sources. What is the correct lube for these old steering gears?

Do the seals hold oil? gear oil. If the seals are gone, thin grease is your recourse. For industrial use with leaky seals on a gearbox, I use #00 grease. You won't find that by the tube, but use the thinnest you can find.
