Hypoid is just a reference to a certain cut pattern to the gears. Any 75W-90 GL-5 rated gear oil = hypoid gear oil and is readily available in any auto parts store. Virtually all companies that make ordinary motor oil also make a 75W-90 GL-5 rated gear oil.
Notice that the shaft of the little pinion gear is not on the same plane as the shaft of the big ring gear? The pinion's shaft is above the ring gear's shaft in this photo. That's why these are hypoid bevel gears...the shafts are not in the same plane.
Yes, a GL-5 gear oil is what you need, and Schaeffer's #267 is excellent.

That is correct EXCEPT... not all gear oils are created equal and to classify the 267 along with a standard gear oil is like classifying m1 or amsoil with a cheap coastal oil from a convience store. 267 has some extreme different qualities that really make differeces, especially when it comes to increasing fuel mileage and wear protection. There is some great info on here as to how the 267 differ's from a standard gear oil that you can pick up from an auto parts store.
