Blitz gas cans have got me furious. They're terrible! They leak, and they always have a gimmick feature that just ends up leaking more.
Every store around me carries Blitz as their sole gas can brand.

I want a gas can that has an easy to use cap, and a vent. Thats it.

No store I've been to has this. Any ideas?

I feel your pain. My favorite feature the Blitz cans have is being ventless, that way if you have to put more than a cup of gas in something it goes glug-glug-glug and spills at least as much as you get in the tank..... of course the whole time it's also dripping on your foot because the filler neck leaks.

Wonder why I have no problem with blitz cans? I own 5 of the ventless, one ace hardware one.... matter of fact the ace one is my favorite. click the tab, rest the hook on the tank, let it push the filler down and it lets the gas go, and air in at the same time through a different hole.... let off the tank and it stops flowing.... good and thick plastic as well...

I gave up, got a new blitz ventless 1gal from walmart yesterday.

We'll see if I can live with it today :p

I have no idea what to expect. It's so wierd!

I saw a vintage Lawn Boy gas can on ebay that looked almost brand new a while back and it got me to thinking that why can't they make them like that anymore. It was rectanglular shaped and had on the top in the middle the carry handle and on the top near one end the flexible pour spout and on the other end a 8 oz. mesuring cup that when inverted stored inside the can. I think that there would be a market for those today. The one on ebay went for over $50 .

Wow, I'm surprised.

My blitz can is actually very nice. (When you're not taking off the spout) The gasket for the spout always falls off, and your hands get gassy trying to fiddle with it... Once the spout is on, the auto vent and valve work flawlessly!

Blitz has finally redeemed themselves. I'm gonna go pick up another probably for my future echo GT-230 :p

We get the Wedco ones in Canada. They're made of sturdy plastic, have o-ring seals, and are totally airtight when closed. They sometimes leak a bit at the pour spout when it's attached. I've tried using one of the Blitz cans, and it leaked gas in my car due to sloshing around, and lack of a proper seal at the cap and vent hole.

I've never had these problems with Blitz cans.

Tractor Supply Co sells a $30 metal 5 gal can that looks pretty solid.

What you want is a "jerry can", one of the many derivatives of the WWII German gasoline/diesel cans. You can get them surplus - I bought some Israeli brand-new surplus cans a couple of years ago.

The current US version is plastic and made in Canada by Scepter, but there are a wide range of plastic and metal versions:

Fugitive emission controls are a very big deal for those of us that live in a soup of smoggy air. I for one don’t have any problem using the newer, sealed gas tanks. I will admit that I was a hard sell. But once I realized that my gas stored much better in the new tanks I became a convert. In fact I discarded my older tanks in favor of the new types.

Think about for a little bit. In new newer tanks, the lighter hydrocarbons are not volatilizing, and air is not constantly being exchanged. This reduces gas oxidation and preserves its parent constituents. This is a nice added benefit if you ask me.

I got tired of looking for good inexpensive cans like the old Rubbermaid/Gott ones that aren't available any more. The new "self-venting" (translated: self-leaking) cans are absolute junk. The last steel Eagle can I bought leaked around the neck, and the one they replaced it with leaked almost as bad.

I finally bought two Wedco 10L. (2.5gal) steel jerry cans from mad4wd.com a couple of years ago, and am VERY satisfied. The pair, with spouts and shipping, cost almost $100.00

, but they're steel and they don't leak. One has lived in the back of my Suburban for a couple of years, and I've yet to smell gas.

The only problem I've had is the lids are so tight that the metal sticks to the seals and makes them kinda hard to open, but I'm thinking some silicone grease might fix that. Good service from mad4wd, also.

If anybody knows where to get replacement caps, etc., for Rubbermaid/Gott cans, please let me know.

jimfulco, you might try the universal cap/spouts that walmart sells, I have a couple and they work good on my jugs. These units come with a clear tubing spout and they incorperate a shut off that is activated by twisting. They also have a couple of different adapters to fit most all the plastic gas cans out there.

Same here. I have a great old rubbermaid, its more pink then red now... great can but the spout broke from age. those universal replacements are great!

burnout, I have a few 2 1/2 gallon plastic gas containers that are kind of unique in that they work really well. I took a look at them and I didn't see a name on them, only these words, self venting, no spill. They are different in that the container has two large openings, one at the back and the filler unit on the front. The filler unit screws on the container and has a horizontal spout with a Red plastic slip on cap, the rear of this nossel has a green button that releases the fuel and vents the container at the same time. The rear cap is used for filling only. It appears to be well designed and made and it has never leaked! I bought it at Atwoods which is a farm supply store here in Kansas. They are a bit pricey at $10 for the 2 1/2 gallon unit, they also have them in 5 gallon size. I have never seen them at any other stores. I also bought just the fill spout/head and adapters and retrofited another brand of container. It is a point and shoot type of operation.
