Need a proper Technical name for the three (3) metal (..or wood) support posts on the underside of a flat roof.

Description:
Flat roof is an extension of an existing sloped tile roof and was built as a patio/pool area roof.

A concrete beam runs horizontally on the extreme outer edge of the flat roof and was designed to be supported by 3 underside posts. A concrete raised surface is on the patio floor and originally there were metal posts approximately 7 to 8ft long mounted vertically between a square concrete post and the concrete beam on the underside of the deck.

What is the proper name for these 3 posts, originally they were square shaped hollow steel/iron ?

Bonus points if anyone can provide a link to a supplier that sells these with mounting hardware.

The jack posts at the big box stores tend to be round and adjustable for height. They'll do the job though don't exactly have that "finished" look.

The adjustable ones are considered temporary, the permanent ones are not. I see the adjustable ones all the time in the basement, it's considered a building code violation, should be the permanent ones. You use the adjustable ones to jack up the spot, then slip the permanent ones underneath and then remove the temporary ones afterwards.

Thanks, was wondering about that detail.

Vertical bearing structure called a column. Lally column in this case.

Any big steel house can supply cut lengths of mild steel tubing to fit the need. Say 6x6 1/4 wall if overhead is cement structure.

Measure old ones and make sure new ones are one wall thickness more - longer lasting. You can foam the core or cement the core to make them last longer. They'll sweat less internally.

A lally column is a 4" steel tube filled with concrete. A right sized pipe cutter was all we ever used to cut them. Any lumber yard carries them.
