Some of these are additives and look like little pieces of caramel, others are white powdery-looking solids that I'm assuming are additives too. There were a lot of particles that do not appear to be additives and I saw several pieces of metal in some of these oils. Since is it possible to have contaminated sample bottles or lab equipment we ran controls (again) on our solvents, the filter funnel, and finally we poured the oil directly from the quart container into the filter apparatus. In each case the oil looked exactly the same. The most expensive had the most solids an I am not aware of any solid metal additives.
