Thanks SL. That stuff is supposed to have closer to about 1000 ppm on zinc and phosphorus per the company tech data sheets. Perhaps the SM came out before the label. What is the code on the back of the bottle?

Typically something like "H234H 2136." We are only concerned with the first four characters The example above would be August 23, 2004, production date.

First character is a letter of the month of production (A=jan to L=Dec), next two digits are day of month, then the 4th character is the year. After that is a letter for plant or something.

Yep, you guys are right. It's the SM/SL version. The date code is J214H 1059. I guess that means it was bottled on October 21, 2004.

So the October stuff VOAed is SM. Well I feel a lot better about my SL stash of 10w40 Durablend now. Mine are ACEA A3 and bottled in May 04. I probably won't do Durablend anymore after my stash runs out, what with those zddp levels.

Note that the Synpower 5w40 SM is still ACEA A3 and has SL levels of zddp (Valvo tech data sheets). Just may have to cop some of that. Well, I have a few years to find it on sale anyway, but isn't the next level (SN, SO, or whatever) coming in a couple years? That might be the time to find the Synpower on clearance? Hope Hope.
