Compare to API SL version here.

Sure hope they tweaked the base oils and improved the additive quality before lowering it across the board. Otherwise, I beginning to think this M1 EP business is nothing more than a marketing snowjob.

Even if this strategy was intended to deal with the SM/GF-4 constraints, I hope they start lowering the price on the regular M1 and keep the M1 EP close to the old M1 price.

Less Moly, Zinc, Boron, and MUCH less calcium. I doubt if they could compensate for that with better base oils.

Doesn't much look like $5 per quart oil anymore does it. Maybe $3.50...

It doesn't, but I'd like to see another lab test it bc I'm not too confident in Blackstone Labs at the moment.

I've never seen M1 5w40 (except truck and SUV) in the US. Is it a European oil?

A comparison of Mobil 5W40's. Mobil makes the Cat DEO Syn.

I'm anxious to see a VOA of the new 0w40 from another lab. Maybe this was a lab error.

Don't know, someone sent it to me and I sent it back. I do remember one of the oils said "European Formula" so something to that effect.

I'll see if I can find a 0W40 to test.

Stinky

I suspect it's correct. We've seen the exact same thing in another grade. This is probably a stop gap to meet SM supply before completing a reformulation. It looks like they just turned the additive tap down by 10%

The 148 ppm of Boron indicates to me that a high quality borate dispersant is present.

In regards to Moly, remember that this also functions as an anti-oxidant, and quantites over 100 ppm are a crutch for the base oil and not for AW protection.

With regard to MoDTC, levels less than about 500 ppm are friction reducers and secondary anti-oxidants. At levels above 500 ppm, moly is an AW, FM, and an anti-oxidant.

Most everyone, not just EXM, is using the new boronated succinimide ester dispersant.

Thanks Stinky. Looks like the Mobil 1 0w-40 is just fine then.

BLK Labs has been very incosistent lately.

If the majority of M1 users, running the SL version, were on a 5K to 7K OCI, why is this add pack not appropriate?

I suppose it is approprate but you have to wonder where this oil fits in. It's under $4 a quart now at Walmart in 5qt jugs but how is it superior enough compared to their own Drive Clean 7500 to justify the price? If the claim is that the DC7500 is good for 7500 miles were does that leave this version of M1?

The SL versions of M1 were easily good for 10K miles in a lot of applications. The shrinking additive package doesn't give the warm and fuzzies about running the latest versions that long...
