Blackstone says the new M1 10W-30 contains:
code:

Iron 1

Tin 2

Moly 76

Potasium 1

Boron 232

Silicon 4

Sodium 5

Calcium 3281

Magnesium 13

Phosph. 791

Zinc 958

SUS Visc. 62.3

Flash 435

TBN 13.0

Have at it fellas! 5 quarts plus a Wix filter went into the Jeep over the weekend.

Well the future is now (Boron and Calcium emphasized).

But will Jiffy Lube change to a 'Every 5000' motto?

Not old SL oil after all.

The new Mobil 5000 and 7500 will be interesting also. Thanks for running this, they had a some at my local wal-mart today for $5.36 a quart.

Thanks for the contribution millerl. I was hoping with all the hype about using the regular Mobil 1 for fuel economy that the viscocity would be a little higher. It looks about the same as the regular Mobil 1. That Boron sure is nice though.

Any first impressions?

True.

Very nice. Thanks millerl. I'm glad they made a 10w-40 also. Would be surprised if ZDDP is actually higher. BLK stone labs tends to report this number lower then other labs for some reason. I was told today that the percentage increases they are stating are compared to the GF-3 Mobil 1. Strong TBN.

Viscosity is 11cSt@100C which pretty thick for a M1 30wt. The spec sheet indicates 10.1cSt@100C so could be lab error.

Looks EXACTLY (additive wise) like old SL except Boron. Could the TBN be coming from esters?

My uoa from 03/2004 showed 119 on Boron (10-30 SS SL). The new boron may be borate esters?
dunno.gif
I think there are different quality additives that will show as boron.

Looks like boron has been increased by about 45% and Calcium about 37%. For $5 something a qt at Walmart, pretty tough to pass up on it IMO.

The majority of the tbn is coming from the calcium. It's the new Calcium carbonate/calcium hydroxide stuff from .....!

Esters have tbn's of about 1; i.e., they are pretty much neutral.

So what are we seeing here. Did they change add packs on both and adjusted the levels accordingly?

Hard to say. These Lab Variations make it hard to tell. I'm thinking it's a % increase of somewhere in the middle of the GF-3 or GF-4. Nice balance of additives though regardless.

It sure would be nice if the EP oils were roughly the same price as the old SL/GF-3 M1, and the SM/GF-4 oil was in the $3.50 range. If the new oil is much more it might be a good idea to stock up on the SL version. The SM/GF-4 doesn't look like $5 a quart oil to me...
