Is there that much difference between the old 10W40 AMF motorcycle oil and the new MCF motorcycle oil? I can get the older stuff for $5.25 and the new stuff is about $8. It looks like they tout the new stuff as being better for the transmission because it meets GL-1 specs, but is it worth $3 more per qt? The specs look pretty close. I have always had good luck with the AMF and it was reasonably priced.

For a Japanese or European superbike that revs to 10k+, I'd say yes the new stuff is worth the extra money. For any other application like an ATV or dirt bike, I'd stick with the less expensive AMF or AMO formulations, or even the AME/15w-40, which also meets JASO MA specs....

That was my thinking also. I run it in 3 relatively mild dirt bike engines. I think I will same $3/qt and use the old stuff as long as I can.
