Here is the text of an email exchange I had with a Shell rep regarding moly in the Rotella oils:

Dan,
>
Will be using the Rotella Synthetic in my Harley Davidson primary
chaincase
(the factory oil is a 10W40 motor oil). Just re-checking that moly
won't be
added to this oil before I recommend it to my friends.

One other thing. Is there any moly in the dino Rotella 15W40? Are
there
any plans to put moly into this oil?

Thanks

There is no moly in the ROTELLA Synthetic or in the mineral ROTELLA T
product. There are no plans on adding moly to either product at this
time.

Where do you find the synthetic Rotella and how much does it cost? I always pick up a couple of gallons whenever I'm in the States...

John.

It should be available at truck stops, shell bulk warehouses, and Columbia fuels is supposed to sell Shell stuff too. Walmart and Canadian Tire sell some Shell products. They may be able to bring in the 5/40. I've no idea how much it costs.

The Detroit MI area Wal-Marts have synthetic Rotella T and usually at a very good price for the gallon jug.

What's wrong with Moly fortified oil in a HD primary? I thought the only concern with Moly was possible wet clutch slip if there was too much Moly.

The synthetic stuff is ussually less than $13 US.

The primary on an HD is where the wet clutch lives.

I put regular Rotella dino 15W40 in my primary on Saturday, rode 220 miles on Sunday--no problems of any kind.

I thought about using the synthetic--and I may still in the future--but I needed a quick change at the start of my regular riding season and the Rotella dino was handy.

Don't be afraid to use the 15W40 dino if you can't find the synthetic.
