Why don't MC oil produce a SJ or SL oil? I was on the Mobil site and their synthetic oils meet SH. Even my 2002 Honda 750 twin recommends SH 10w-40. There must be something or not something in the SJ-SL oils that is not desirable.
This is maybe why some guys say they have used auto oil back in 1986 when it was SG or SH with success. I don't think one could use a SL 10w-40 oil in a bike with good results. If you could find an old SH oil i'll bet that would work.

A few motorcycle oils are SJ rated. As for SL, I think that there is some concern that the (generally) lower amounts of zinc and phosphorus may be a problem, particularly for use in motorcycle transmissions. Another concern is that SL oils, even those that that aren't rated as energy conserving, may have aditives that could cause wet clutches to slip.
