I have an 03 Guzzi with the new Hydraulic lifters that are eating up the cams on some bikes. Some bikes as few as 2000mi some around 8000mi. Mine has 4500mi with no apperent problem. I have been running Shell Rotella Syn. T 5w40. The manufacturer specs 5w40 synthetic, so I am fullfilling warrantee specs. I just changed oil and filter and was wondering if a 2000mi trip would reveal a usable UOA. I am mostly looking to see if the iron content is extremly high. If it is, I will know what to expect in the comming miles. If it falls into the normal ranges, then I hope not to be affected. Also, does a magnetized drain plug affect ferrous readings in a UOA?

A UOA should tell you a lot about what is going on with the cams. I don't have a clue what to say about the magnetic drain plug other than most bikes have them.
