The owners manual recomends. 5w-30, 10w-40, 10w-50, 20w-40 and 20w-50.

No mention of 10w-30

But when I bought it it had a sticker telling me not to change the "Special 10w-30 break in oil".

They want you to use an oil that is NOT friction modified ....Recommending the xw-40 or xw-50 grades is one way to do this without having to explain their rationale ....

The spec is probably for a "CH-4/SJ" type oil ....ie, a diesel formulated lube. I'd run either the Amsoil Series 3000, 5w-30 or their 10w-40 (AMO) in this particular motor.

The best Mobil product would be Delvac 1, or their 10w-40 MC oil ....

They recomend "SG" oil! Most of it's life it lived on Motule 10w-40 untill the bike shop raised the price to $12.99 a qt for the stuff.

Switched to Mobil-1 motorcycle oil that has the "Jaso-ma" rating.

I just finished rebuilding the trans yesterday and today I went for a 40 mile ride to break everything in runnin regular Havoline 10w-30.

When I got back an hour ago I drained the break in oil and put in some Amsoil 10w-40 MC oil I found at another bike shop
