1986 Honda TRX200SX. 4 stroke, 5 spd, auto clutch. Factory manual says use Honda 10W40 dino oil which I do.

I have always been told that I cannot use synthetic oil in this engine/trans. because of the wet clutch.

Lately I have been seing syn. oils like M1 motorcycle oil that says it is o.k. to use in wet clutch situations.

I use my ATV to plow snow and it gets pretty cold here and it sometimes cranks real slow at first and is hard to start when it's cold. I'd like to go to synthetic if I can.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Can I use the M1 motorcycle synthetic in my old 4 stroke wet clutch trans.?

Thanks for your opinions.

Yes, you can use a synthetic oil. Amsoil has them specifically for ATV's.

I have a 2001 Honda Rancher and have the Amsoil in there since the first 5 hrs of use. Honda and the Honda dealer said the same thing but when I was back at the dealer to have it serviced I found they were going to install bulk Mobil 10W-40 oil and not Honda Oil, so I had them install the Amsoil I had. btw-They also sold Amsoil.

Here is a link to check out the oils.

You shouldn't have any problems using M1 motorcycle synthetic, it's made for use in wet clutch engines.
