I get a lot of questions from Harley EVO owners about what is the best substitute for factory oil. Here in Thailand, the importation of HD oils and other "approved or deemed approved" oils is barred by non-tariff barriers. How do they do this you may ask? Well, you actually can import any oil your want, as long as you get it tested by the local authorities on a batch basis, and complete engine test sequence data must be supplied. Well, you guessed it, HD won't supply the engine test sequence data and the HD dealers won't go through the kind of expense of having a engine test sequence done on each batch they import. To make a long story short, no HD oil is available, except for the occasional "grey-market" consignments that slip by Customs.

Any recommendations on commercial blends is welcome.

I'd use one of two oils in a Harley, whichever I could get more easily or cheaply: either Mobil 1 supersyn 15w50 "red cap", or Amsoil in 10w40 or 20w50, whichever weight the Harley engine recommended.
