I have a Samsung Galaxy tab 4 10.0. I am getting a notification that I am running out of memory.

When I go to settings and look at storage, I see I have almost 5gb of cached data. But when I try to clear it nothing happens.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Cached data means data kept by individual apps.
Whatsapp, Facebook, WeChat and a bunch of other apps store tons of information after some use. You can clear those, uninstall and delete the folders completely and then reinstall.

Thanks Noobie. When I go to the apps manager I don't see apps I commonly use. I can't see where that 5gb might be. I am mostly on sits such as this one, (BITOG) with no listed app. What do I uninstall?

When I hit 'Clear all cashed data' nothing happens.

In the app info screen you can usually clear cached data. As well, there are myriad "system cleaning" apps that perform this triviallly. There is absolutely no need to go through an entire uninstall; which may itself wipe your personal data and preferences.

Thank you, never thought I needed an app cleaner, but it worked like a charm.

Strangely enough, in Android 7 i don't see an option to clear cache on individual apps. Even ES File Explorer does not give that option. You can only clear cache as a whole. Weird.

I dont know why app devs dont integrate a self maintenance schedule into their apps. Some apps can use more than a gig of space after some time, thats a lot for low to mid range phones or old phones.

I use SD Maid. Beware of the apps by Cheetah Mobile (CM)! I used to have their whole suite.. Battery Doctor, etc. until I came across another forum showing that it was a Chinese company with some shady phone-home "features".

I got an HTC Desire with only 1GB of RAM, that's terrily. My phone often runs sluggish and laggy. I think CCleaner or Master Cleaner (You may be familiar with PC versions already). I'm using Master Cleaner, quite good, others told me that CCleaner is another good app too. These app are all available on Play Store, but not on AppStore (I don't know why) so I love Android even much more. haha
CCleaner:
+Play Store:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.piriform.ccleaner
+Apk file for download from PC/other phone: http://choilieng.com/apk-on-pc/com.piriform.ccleaner.apk
Clean Master:
+Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleanmaster.mguard
+Clean master apk file: http://choilieng.com/apk-on-pc/com.cleanmaster.mguard.apk
P.S: Do anyone have idea about similar app like these on App store. My Ipad starts running slowly after update, i want to boost it a little but i don't know how (i have no Cydia at all)

Thanks

I had CCleaner on my phone for a while, but decided that it wasn't doing anything that I couldn't do myself (with the Clear App Cache feature built right in to Android). I couldn't say why the OP's phone wasn't doing it correctly, other than Samsung phones have their TouchWiz Android skin, and it could be a bug in Samsung's skin/launcher creating the issue.
