I accidentally bought it, thinking it was 15W-40 to use in my bike. Since I already had it, I decided to try it in my Z71's 5.3 V8. My truck got 1/2 mpg better with the Rotella T5 than the Super Tech synthetic that I'd used for years. Can anyone explain this mileage increase. BTW, the truck has almost 200,000 miles on it, and uses no oil between changes.

Also, what is your overall average fuel economy? The energy density of gasoline at the same station can vary up to 4%.

Plus add in weather and seasonal traffic effects and your 1/2 MPG quickly disappears into the noise.

Haven't kept up with how many tanks. The truck has displays for instant/average fuel mileage, and now says average is 16.5, where it was 16.0. I've got about 4000 miles on this oil change, and it's still displaying 16.5.

There are a lot of possibilities, but the sometimes thicker oil can increase compression in older vehicles. T5 also had a does of PAO at one time..
