I have a couple of friends with out of warranty vw's. One is a 2.0tsi and the other. 2.5. Any thoughts on using this oil in those cars? I scored a couple of cases quite cheap. I'm guessing this is similar to pennzoil euro 5w30, which is vw 502 approved. Also thinking that if this oil is suitable for use in modern bmw turbos, it should do just fine in similar applications from other manufactures. I can also get the by the way 0w40 quite cheaply as well if that might be better.

By the way...does anyone have a voa or specs on this oil?

Input appreciated.

I like that as well, but this is on hand, trying to use it. Based on the BMW models it goes in, I am thinking it is fine. Just trying to get feedback

Yeah it will be fine.

Why are americans so amused with OBSOLETE vw 502 spec?

Here in eu even dino 20w50 oil have vw 502 spec....

It would be better if you will look after vw 504/507...it is way ahead!

Do you mean VW501 rather than VW502? I can't ever recall seeing a VW502 20W50.

Because it is what VW requires here in North America. Some 504/507 oils have an issue dealing with our fuel for a 10k OCI.

In the U.S. there is high level of sulfur in the gas and in DI engine VW504.00/507.00 gets diluted too fast.
Also, it is not obsolete and in Europe VW 502.00 is still recommended by VW.
Also, like others said, I have not seen also 20W50 VW 502.00 or 15W40 VW 502.00. I am close neighbor of yours, originally from Bosnia, and know what is on sale in Europe.

Ok I admit that I confused it with vw 505 spec (in most cases there is vw 500/502/505 combo writen on the oil bottle).....but nevertheless nor vw 502 nor vw 505 doesnt represent something special here in EU.

Whenever I am buying oil here I am just ignoring VW 502 or 505 standard....because it is "too basic"....I rather rely on BMW or MB standards ( BMW LL-01 or MB 229.5 for Full saps oil)

E to!

VW502.00 is not basic. It is ONLY full SAPS option for current VW engines.
VW502.00 is constantly updated. Basically, oil that met VW502.00 in 2000, would not be able to meet it today.

Yes, but they have to meet also 505.01 in conjunction with 502.00. Stand alone VW 502.00 is strictly Full SAPS oil.

502 00 has a min TBN of 7. Therefore it is mid and full saps spec

505 00 is now high saps only with a min TBN of 10 (aligned with A3/B4) (hystorical formulations pre spec change exit in the market though.

505 01 has a maximum of 0.8% SAPS

There is so such thing as a standalone VW spec, they must have to pair.

formulations launched today :
VW 502 00/ 505 00 = High SAPS
VW 502 00/ 505 01 = Mid SAPS

VW 502 00 /505 00 is no longer allowed on 10W grades and above. Only VW 501 01 / 505 00 on 10W +
