Authorities and witnesses of the deadly crash said that the car driven by Carmelo Pinales, 26, was speeding before it veered across a divider into oncoming traffic on the Long Island Expressway, near Exit 68 in Manorville, shortly after 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

“We’re obviously looking at speed,” Suffolk Chief of Detectives Gerard Gigante told Newsday. “There are people that indicated that the Subaru was passing them and they were driving at or above the speed limit.”

Why was this posted?

It was a 'regular' accident -- it was pretty clearly a driver losing control of a car he was driving way too fast. There wasn't any obvious problem with the car or road. It's notable only for the tragedy inflicted on people in the other cars -- imagine having your fiancee killed next to you, or your husband of many years dying slowly.

I believe the original poster wanted to remind us, we could be a victim of circumstance just being on the wrong place at the wrong time, minding our business and doing nothing wrong.

Odd choice of subject for this thread, nonetheless.
