Been reading and trying to sort one manual transmission fluid from the other.

Penzoil Synchromesh
Royal Purple Synchromax
GM Synchromesh
Redline MT
etc, etc, etc.

What are the differences?

Pros?

Cons?

Best applications?

What are the differences in additive packages?

Comparing them against each other, not for a specific vehicle.

I love Redline products. I've used it in every manual transmission I have owned from my Yaris up to my race cars. Always delivered outstanding results.

This is a worthless thing.

Its like saying "What oil viscosity is best?"

It depends on the application.

Many wont work *AT ALL* in some applications.

For example none on the list would work in a subaru MT.

You would want redline 75w90NS not the redline MT series.

+1 - if I wanted the best I would go with Amsoil.

I run Amsoil ATF and diff gear oil.

Can you elaborate? In what way did it outperform?

Some say it doesn't crunch like Amsoil and Redline if you read the reviews.

Winners at what? Not Mazda, VW, BMW, GM, Ford, etc. I use a ot of Amsoil transmission lubes but they don't work the best in every application and Redline certainly doesn't. You cant shift a VW 5 spd into 2nd with Redline in it under 32f, its horrible fluid in these units.
The Cheap Pennzoil synchromesh works as good as anything you could ask for. It 100% does matter what application its needed for, there is no best for all. Pentosin MTF-2 is a great fluid I would put up against Redline or Amsoil any time for some vehicles.

Although not spec'd for it, I put this fluid in my Crossfire (MB SLK 320) tranny this morning. Only drove it for about 10 miles, but the 1-2 crunch was gone and downshifts seem smoother. A year ago, I tried Amsoil Synchromesh (see link) with initial improved shifts, but it degraded quickly, and the tranny reverted to it's prior bad behavior.
Interesting that this Ford syn fluid is made in Germany, distributed by Ford Dearborn MI and has label instructions in English and French. Vive la difference at least for now. We'll see how this fluid holds up, particularly when it gets cold.
