I needed to pack wheel bearings on the boat trailer, so I consulted my dad. He has worked in HD truck parts most of his career. He got a chub and swears by lubriplate 1200-2. The counter man said I couldnt go wrong with it, so thats what I got. Hopefully I dont get stuck on the highway

Is that a white or yellow (lithium vs. sodium?) grease?

I ask because I need to clean and repack the bearings of our "hasn't moved in 30 years" boat trailer.

We have castrol LMX at work, which is a yellow lithium complex grease... previous employer used a blue grease by Total, and the castrol lmx in our smaller containers is red.

I wouldn't go by colour.

Remove all the grease from the hub and spindle with something like mineral spirits. Repack with a NLGI #2 lithium soap base grease. Lubriplate 1200-2 is just that but hard to find. This is an easy application for grease so it's not like going to Mars. Most retailers sell a "wheel bearing" grease. That's all you need. Overthinking x 10.Don't over tighten the spindle nut. Tapered roller bearings require a very light preload.
