My Dad has a 2001 S10 with the 4.3 Vortec. It has a CEL with a P0300 code for a misfire. In hot weather it takes longer to crank before it fires up. Once it fires up, it idles rough. Once it gets running it seems to run fine in the higher RPMs and also feels responsive enough. On colder days it fires right up. I recognize that this could be a number of things, but I am wondering if anyone has experience with these and has seen any common issues with these symptoms. I don't claim to be a mechanic, but I like to do as much of my own work as possible. Thanks!

Look down inside throttle body to see if fuel leaking from pressure regulator is leaking in side intake from spider assembly where it is mounted, one side will be really clean if it is leaking as it washes all goo of intake manifold floor

+1
its probably got a sticky poppet on the misfiring cyl.

Do you know when your spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and distributor rotor were replaced? Often a vehicle manual will state that those items are good for 100,000 miles, but I find that they are more likely to last 60,000 miles.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll check it out a little closer next chance I get (Dad lives about 300 miles away).

@ clinebarger - I think ultimately price will be a considerable factor. Not sure how price compares... I'll have to look into it if that is the concern. With a MPI conversion would it need some sort of ECU tune?

@atificialist - My brother replaced the spark plugs not long before he sold it to my Dad which was probably around 4 years ago and 20,000 miles ago give or take. My brother doesn't remember if he used ACDelco or Bosch +4 plugs (I remember encouraging him to stick with ACDelco). I imagine the wires, distributor cap, and distributor rotor have never been replaced....

Check the cap on those - the terminals on them are prone to corrosion, use an AC Delco OEM cap for replacement only.

I'm not going to say it's cheap because I don't know the financial situation, But $225 is cheap for 6 new Injectors & a FPR comparatively speaking....https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-217-3028-Original-Equipment-Injector/dp/B000NW8ES0/ref=au_as_r?_encoding=UTF8&Make=Chevrolet%7C47&Model=Astro%7C415&Year=2001%7C2001&ie=UTF8&n=15684181&newVehicle=1&s=automotive&vehicleId=21&vehicleType=automotive

Require no tuning/reflash of any kind!

Sorry to bump an old thread, just wanted to thank those that gave me some tips last year. Finally got around to working on my Dad's truck (lives a few hours away). The new acdelco Fuel injection assembly (mfi conversion with fpr integrated) did the trick. It appears the fpr was bad (clean area beneath it) and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the old injectors were bad too. In any event, my Dad said it's a different truck now.
