Yeah, I know that both Fram and Honda would say that the Ultra would have been good for another OCI, but I can't bring myself not to change a five buck filter while I've got the car up.
I will likely do a convenience change in late December when we catch a nice day. This OCI should be around 20% MM by then and I'd like to avoid a forced change in either Jan or Feb when the weather is bound to be colder.
Out: Amsoil XL 5w-30 at 7500 miles with a Motorcraft FL-900S filter.
In: Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 with a Performax PO-21 shop filter from work.
Probably going to run it 7500 miles as well, both are getting analyzed to see which is better for my engine. I like Amsoil, but hate the hassle of obtaining it when I can walk into O'Reillys and buy PP off the shelf 7 days a week and not have to pay for and wait for shipping. So unless Amsoil blows the PP out of the water in wear numbers, TBN, and other factors, I will probably just stick with PP from here on. We'll see in a few months from now!

First time using synthetic on this car, after 60k miles using MS 5-30 OCI: 4-5k miles
Is so early talk about oil consuption but the engine is noticable more quite and easier when starting up.
85 rx7 2k miles on Castrol GTX 10w40. It was a quart low and I had used my castrol 10w40 as top off on another car so I went ahead and changed it to M1 15w50 for the hot weather. Left the STP XL oil filter in place
2002 Pontiac Grand prix 3.1. This engine seems to be picky about oils. Both me and my girlfriend swear we can tell it feels less peppy on some brands of oil. She mentions it without even knowing what oil was used at oil change. Some shop did some work on her car and put in whatever oil. This engine really seems to like a little moly. Pennzoil, QS, and supertech seem to make this car feel most normal.

After setting for 12 hours, pulled the filter and there was no oil in the galleries above the oil filter.
Re-installed the filter and ran the engine 2 minutes at the most. Pulled the filter and recovered 4 oz. plus of oil from the galleries. Conclusion: ADBV function is a fail.
