...

Immigration NZ typically receives 3000 registrations from Britons wanting to work, study or invest in New Zealand each month, through its New Zealand Now website.

But that leapt to 5005 in the 12 days immediately following Britain's June 23 Brexit referendum, in which Britons voted to leave the European Union, spokeswoman Emma Murphy said.

The department also normally received 7000 registrations from Americans wanting to work, study or invest in New Zealand each quarter, through New Zealand Now, she said.

But that had risen to 13,522 in the less-than-three months since Donald Trump won the Republican Party's pivotal Indiana primary on May 3.

...

About 3700 Britons normally visited the websites each day, but that had nearly trebled to 10,000 in the 12 days following the Brexit referendum.

Visits from the US rose from an average of 6100 a day before the Indiana primary to 8700 since, she said.

It's a massive increase, but seemingly a rather small number.

Also, how do we know that the US citizens looking to flee are not dissatisfied with both political candidates?

I have no problems with skilled/high talent immigration. Every country worth a salt looks for that (Australia, NZ, U.S., Canada). And you need talent to compete globally, whether it's in business, science, etc.

But allowing unskilled labor, convicts, terrorists, etc......well, that is altogether different.

We agree for a change.

That's the problem with our current immigration system...the people coming here are not vetted, so basically, everyone is allowed in...the bad with the good...

Small numbers to you, big numbers to us.

Western Europeans will take care of themselves....just like my ancestors did. That's the entire problem right there....it's not about what immigrants WE can take care of (?), it's what the immigrant can offer this country.

Where are your ancestors from ?

One "emigrates" from and "immigrates" to, but you surely already knew this.

Glad you brought this up since it's a common misconception.
Nations enjoy full taxing power in their own currencies.
They also enjoy the ability to create bank reserves in their own currencies limited only by the willingness of markets to accept the value of the currency. There is no question about the capacity of any nation to service debt denominated in its own currency. There is also the matter of trade accounts having to balance. China doesn't buy American debt because they like us. They do so because they must park their excess dollars somewhere.
If the suffering nations of Europe had retained their own currencies, they'd be free to use fiscal and central bank policies to revive their economies. Since they've adopted what amounts to a currency that can only be earned through foreign exchange, they have no flexibility to employ stimulative policies and their economies remain mired in recession.
Lord Keynes had this figured out more than eighty years ago. Too bad that modern states can't get the message.
