Just registered on the forum as I've helped out with the creation of this animated map that I thought might be of interest to you guys. Hopefully this is the right section for sharing (mods please move if not).
Basically, it shows where the US has imported oil from over the past 20 years.
As you can see from the map, we get most of our imported oil (about 40%) from Canada.
This one shows just the comparison between 1996 and 2015.
To create the maps we collected (a lot of!) data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).
If you'd like to learn more about the data (with more stats like oil imports by continent etc) our original post is here
