Quote:
Government authorities are moving quickly to restrict the sale of all lever-action firearms in Australia.

Police are leading the push to “recategorise” lever-action into the restricted Category C gun class and away from the general Category A.

A senior government official said today the mooted change may be made retrospective, which could lead to a buyback of the thousands of lever-action rifles and shotguns already legally owned by Australian shooters.

A year ago, they started describing lever action shotguns as a "loophole" in the laws.

And people wonder why the NRA freaks out at any kind of gun control in the USA-once they get their foot in the door, pretty soon they'll try to take them ALL.

What about pumps, or are they already banned?
What is it with gun control in Australia?
Did Australia ever have the level of gun violence that we see here?

Now that we've heard the Arizonan concept on gun control in Australia, it would be nice to hear what the actual Australian to whom I replied has to offer.

Just what is it about socialist, draconian gun laws you don't understand, that require them being explained to you? You either want it or you don't. Do you have to live through a hurricane to understand what they are capable of?

You're right, of course.
Why engage in any serious policy discussion when one can simply throw around a few simplistic labels and consider the matter closed?
Ever wonder why we can't seem to get serious candidates for elective offices these days?
Why pay any attention to what a candidate has to say when you can simply apply a political label to that candidate and pretend that label tells us all we need to know?

There actually is, but you need to move beyond what you'll find online or on the various network news broadcasts to find it.
Few people do, so we end up with policy by sound bite and photo op.
There was a day when many of our political leaders were accurately called statesmen while today many could be more accurately described as clowns or village idiot.

Political "discussions" will get the thread locked. Period, end of story. Look, this isn't a Moon shot to figure out. What is it you want to... "discuss"? Australia has both conservatives and socialist liberals, just like we do here. If you ask a conservative what they think of Australia's draconian gun laws, particularly one who has lost a valuable collection for peanuts, due to their silly, stupid, "buy back program", they're going to hate it.

In turn, if you ask a flaming socialist liberal down there what they think, they're going to tell you it's the greatest thing to come along since Monday Night Football and 3 men in the booth. And just what does any of this have to do with, "getting serious candidates"? I've heard enough from liberals, along with, "what they have to say", to last me 10 lifetimes. I'm sick of their freedom robbing, big government "answers" to everything. If that's your political opinion, you're entitled to it. If you want a gun control argument, (which is exactly what all of these type of "discussions" turn into), then like I said, all you'll accomplish is getting the thread locked. Either way, you've wasted your time, and train wrecked a perfectly good thread in the process.
