This is the last sample I have on 20w50, again Wolfs head (more 17 cent per quart oil). Oil was in use for 3,000 miles total vehicle miles of 303,227. Viscocity was still a touch low but compared to the early samples insolubles are in check. Silicon and wear still trending down from the vacuum leak.

I would not be running 20W50 in the engine. What kind of oil was used in the engine for the majority of the engine's life?;+

I believe my old 22R toyota pickup manual called for 20w50. I ran 15w40 though.

I don't run 20w50 in it anymore. It was part of 22 gallons of oil that I paid less than $1/gal for. I've used up what I had left. According to the owners manual 20w50 is suitable at temperatures above 40 degrees. It's rarely below 40 here in Florida but the engine admittedly prefers Xw30 based upon both mileage and wear doesn't suffer any.

I can't comment as to what the previous owner used. My guess would be either 5w30 or 10w30 as it was dealer serviced for the first 255,000 miles of its life.
