Would you prefer to raise taxes on local businesses and pay more for products and services?

Nothing's free. Also stating that taxpayers are gullible fools clearly shows that you are not educated on the subject at hand.

What's the alternative that you would even propose in that case? Don't pay taxes? Not an option - the government will come down hard on you. What else can we do, vote? Done, most people do that.

My advice would be to prepare for the future with your finances, and don't try to save a penny on required expenses and then waste a dollar on unnecessary wants.

We've been in perpetual wars since 1941 of different intensity. Look how many trillions we've wasted in the Middle East since 2001 with nothing to show for it.

That's where your money is going.

State or Federal the taxpayer money spent in the Middle East has been a total waste. With no end in sight.

No it hasn't. Would you rather fight that war on our own soil?

They're already on our 'own soil'

Our efforts have created ISIS. And strengthened AL Queda. If we had stayed out there would be no 'war' to fight.

Complaining about 37.5 cents/gal tax ? How about we are paying more than double that amount ? Your gas is about $2 and Shell and Chevron near my house is $3.09/gal 87 Octane.

If you look at gasbuddy.com national gas map you will see how low you are paying compares to Californian.

Quote:
If you ask Gov. Jerry Brown how much the tax on gas is in California, he would quickly say $.42 cents a gallon. If you ask the California State Board of Equalization (our taxing agency), they’ll tell you that “Effective July 1, 2013, the total state excise tax rate applicable to motor vehicle fuel is $0.395 per gallon.”

But that is not the full tax.

You also have to add sales tax to the price. In California, in addition to the state, sales tax is levied by the city or county and runs from 7.5 percent at the low end to 10 percent at the high end—the average is around 9 percent. So on a $4.00 gallon of gas, add at least 30 cents, up to 42 cents, to the price (could this be where the governor gets his 42 cents?).

They should just fire all of the gas station attendants and let people pump their own gas like the rest of the country does. The money that would've paid the attendant's wages go towards road repair instead. Problem solved.

The war in Iraq was costing $4500 per second.

Who has NJ been at war with that they need more gas tax revenue?

My answer was to (Where has the money gone? The taxpayers in the U.S are mostly gullible fools.) -- a general sentiment about the path of our taxes. NJ taxpayers don't live on the Moon. their taxes are wasted on wars just like the ones we pay in Illinois.

Gas tax revenues are supposed to be spent on roads, not wars....

If you believe that nonsense, I've got a bridge I'll sell you...

Thats the scam and political cover to get some idiot republicans in the senate to go along with this huge money grab. The current gas tax fleeces New Jersey motorist to the tune of a half billion dollars per year, now they want another another half billion.

Christie's term ends in 2017, should a Democrat governor get elected, watch out. Some excuse will be found to delay or kill even that measly 1% sales tax reduction while the gas tax takes effect immediately. Then they will ram through many other taxes the first year in office, this game has been going on for decades in NJ.

Happy 4th of July..

New Jersey residents call you state senator and the Governors office, tell them to vote no and veto.
