I'm looking after my father's Tahoe at the moment... it has 72K on it, he has always used dino oil and it's due for a change... looking for input. My default would be Penzoil 5W30 Platinum FS, unsure on filter... also curious about spark plugs FWIW. Thanks!

The balance of driving has been highway; no trailer hauling
OCI has been *around* 5K - dino oil
The vehicle is well maintained, garaged, and not driven hard at all

Nothing wrong with PP, it's a fine oil.

Any SN oil will last you the full OCI suggested by your car's OLM. GM didn't start requiring dexos until 2011; however, it is backwards-compatible with the older cars.

For OLM cars, I like to use the cheapest synthetic on sale and run it for the OLM. Napa often has their house brand synthetic for $3-4/qt. Napa Synthetic is rebranded Synpower.

However, even Smitty's at Kmart will be just fine. It's 10% PAO, and on sale for $1.99/qt

My filter choice would be Wix/Napa Gold, Fram Ultra, or the Fram-made CQ filters on Rock Auto clearance (AAP recently switched to Purolator, so that's their new store stock). Of course, if Napa Platinum is on sale, that's a good filter too!
