Why are you worried about the short trips then? Once there is moisture and fuel in the oil, even if it is burned off by a longer trip, the oil stays deteriorated and will not come back to the same quality as before.
If you feel once a year OCI is enough, then doing extra trips or idling the engine higher is a waste of gas. Otherwise change the oil every 6 months, as it's the most effective way to get rid of contamination.
